What you give up when the purchase is yours and not Hipobuy's
Four passages in Hipobuy's forwarding documents carry most of the difference; none is hidden, but they sit in two texts most buyers only meet at the submit button.
After-sales: the homepage and the forwarding terms disagree
Hipobuy's homepage describes its warehouse step as a guarantee: after your product arrives, it checks it and gives you the results, and you receive an after-sales service guarantee for the product at Hipobuy.
The forwarding disclaimer and the Parcel Forwarding Services Agreement narrow that for forwarded goods to almost nothing. Hipobuy will not provide any after-sales service for transfer products; for after-sales you contact the sender or seller yourself, and Hipobuy can only help ship the goods back to them.

The homepage line is general, written for the agent order that most people place. The forwarding terms are specific and attached to the submit page, so for a forwarded parcel they are the ones to plan around.
Missing pieces when the parcel is opened
When a forwarded parcel arrives short, Hipobuy's instruction is to contact the sender for verification, and it will not compensate missing items that it did not cause. That follows from the paragraph that opens the agreement's fifth point: every forwarded parcel is unpacked, but Hipobuy does not list or classify the goods for you.
An agent order handles the same situation differently. If the seller shipped the wrong thing or too few, the buyer agent goes back to the seller, and Hipobuy's return rules say the customer normally does not pay when the seller is at fault.
If you forward, count the pieces on the inspection photos as soon as they appear, and keep the seller's packing details. Your evidence is all there will be.

Inspection: two texts, two different promises
Hipobuy's FAQ on quality checks says its inspectors check the items purchased by us, which is to say agent purchases: colour, size against your remark, widespread damage and other significant issues, with no full guarantee on colour difference or thread.

For forwarded goods the documents say less. The forwarding disclaimer promises that all goods are unpacked and photographed for you to confirm, and that special and professional products cannot get a professional inspection. The general rules page for forwarding and inspection does say the warehouse verifies quantity, colour and size, while the forwarding agreement says it provides no inventory of the goods.
We print both readings rather than choose one. What is certain is that you get photos, and that you can buy extra detailed photos at 1 CNY each if you need a closer look.
Money taken without a confirmation step
Both order types can cost more than you planned, but they ask differently. An agent order whose real price or seller shipping is higher stops at Clear Balance and waits for you. A forwarding order whose courier fee is collected on delivery is simply charged to your balance.
A heavier parcel is treated the same in both: you are asked to pay the difference at a status Hipobuy calls Waiting for Confirmation before the parcel ships. A lighter one earns a refund to your balance under Hipobuy's settlement rules.
Returns cost money in both, too. An agent return for your own reasons costs both shipping legs plus RMB 5. A forwarded item can only be shipped back to the seller or sender, and Hipobuy does not publish what that costs.
The practical difference is timing. An agent order never charges you more without a pause; a forwarding order can, once, for the courier. Keeping a small balance on the account while a forwarded parcel is on its way stops that charge from holding the goods up, which is exactly what the disclaimer asks.

Compensation clauses in the forwarding agreement
The agreement's second section is a single sentence: if a product is lost, damaged, missing or delayed in transport for reasons outside Hipobuy's hands, Hipobuy does not compensate, nor for any indirect loss.
The third section lists seven situations where Hipobuy is not liable, among them damage it could not prevent, except for insured parcels, items confiscated for breaking shipping rules, a parcel that arrived intact and at the original weight, a parcel signed for in the normal way, and claims not made within the inquiry period.
The insured-parcel exception matters because parcel insurance is chosen at parcel submission, for agent and forwarded goods alike. The international leg of a forwarded item is therefore no less covered than an agent one; it is the purchase before the warehouse that has no cover.

What a forwarding order keeps
The losses are all about the purchase. Everything from the warehouse shelf onward is shared. Forwarded goods get the same 90 days of free storage from Warehoused, the same inspection photos, the same option of extra photos, and the same parcel page, where they can be combined with agent goods or shipped alone.
They also keep two things the agent order cannot give: paying the seller in your own account, under that marketplace's own buyer terms, and keeping the purchase out of Hipobuy's currency conversion, since only the shipping and customs lines are paid to Hipobuy.
If neither of those is worth the after-sales you give up, the agent order is the simpler route. The two-lane comparison puts your own item through both.
