The agent order: Hipobuy's buyer pays the seller on your behalf
In an agent order the purchase sits on Hipobuy's side of the counter: its buyer places the order, pays the seller, follows the shipment and answers to you when the seller sends the wrong thing.
Hipobuy's own definition, and its formula
Hipobuy's help article on the two order types heads the first one 'We Buy the Product for You'. You submit the order on the website, pay for the product and the seller's domestic shipping (unless the seller ships free), and the shopping agent buys it. After inspection the item is stocked in the warehouse, and from there you submit a parcel.
The same article gives the total: product cost, plus international shipping (by weight, method and destination), plus a customs clearance fee. Hipobuy's fee page adds that it charges no agent service fee and defines product cost as the product price plus the seller's shipping to the warehouse.
The money therefore arrives in two instalments. The first, item and seller shipping, is paid when you order. The second, shipping and the customs line, is paid when you submit the parcel, possibly weeks later and possibly together with other items.

Three order forms that all end as an agent order
Hipobuy offers three ways in on the agent side, and all three are billed by the same formula. The second and third live on one page, which the homepage button calls Custom Order, an older menu called DIY Order and the beginner guide calls Fill and Buy.
- A pasted link. For Taobao, 1688 and Weidian, the link opens the item inside Hipobuy, with its options and price filled in.
- Manual Order (Fill and Buy). For pages the search bar cannot read, such as Goofish (Xianyu) or Xiaohongshu. You enter the link, product name, specifications, unit price and the seller's freight to the warehouse; the form's own total is product cost plus to-warehouse freight, and it notes that international freight is calculated separately. If you do not know the price, Hipobuy suggests entering 1 CNY and paying the difference later.
- Customized Order. For things you can only show or describe. You upload up to five images or write a description, give a price range and quantity, and the buyer tries to find a match and confirms with you within 24 hours. The form warns that if the buyer finds the product and you no longer want it, the service fee for that search is not refunded. The public text of the form does not state the fee.

Both manual forms carry the same pre-purchase notes, the prohibited and limited items list, and both forms' fine print says Hipobuy cannot tell the quality or authenticity of the goods. That last point holds for every agent order, manual or not.
From payment to the shelf, step by step
Once you pay, the order waits in a queue to be assigned to a buyer agent; Hipobuy's status for this is Pending Orders. The buyer then completes the purchase within six working hours, and the order turns to Ordered while the seller prepares to ship.
If the seller's actual price or domestic shipping turns out higher than what you paid, the order moves to a status called Clear Balance and stops until you pay the difference. This is the agent order's version of a surprise charge: you are asked first, and nothing moves until you agree.
From there the seller ships to the warehouse, the parcel is scanned in, and the warehouse inspects and shelves the item. Its status becomes Stored, and the 90 days of free storage begin.
Every status shows on the order page. Hipobuy's guide points out that only the Arrived status means the warehouse has the goods; until the item is stored it can be followed on the Orders page only, and stored items then move to the Warehouse page.

Read the status as an action, not a delivery date
After your first payment, distinguish a submitted request from a completed seller purchase. A price difference, unavailable size or unclear remark can require your answer before the agent proceeds. Open the order message and quote the particular option you want; do not place a second identical order just because the first has not changed status.
The first payment concerns the goods and relevant domestic charges. International freight is a later decision after warehouse receipt, QC and parcel selection. Keep that second budget available. When the seller dispatches, the tracking refers to delivery within China. It does not mean that your international parcel has left the warehouse. Keep the product order and later parcel number separately so support can identify the stage you mean.
Talking to the seller through a buyer agent
The agent order comes with a person in the middle. On the item page there is a 'Leave a message' box for instructions to the buyer, for example asking the seller to confirm a size. After the purchase, each order line has a consulting service button that reaches the buyer agent assigned to it.
Hipobuy's disclaimer for purchasing agents sets the limits of that help. For custom-made products it asks you to agree the details with the seller yourself and then pass on the seller's AliWangwang ID or messages. Deposit orders cannot be cancelled once placed, so the balance has to be paid on the seller's schedule or the deposit is lost.

None of this exists in a forwarding order. There, the only conversation with the seller is the one you have yourself.
What the agent order keeps for you
The main protection is what Hipobuy calls the 5-Day Return Guarantee. You can request a return within five days of the order becoming Warehoused; Hipobuy starts the count at the first full hour after that status and treats five days as 120 hours. It only works if the seller offers returns and agrees. If you return for your own reasons, you pay the shipping back to the seller, the original shipping from the seller, and a RMB 5 service fee.
When the seller is at fault, say a wrong item or one with holes or stains, or the goods broke in transit to the warehouse, Hipobuy says the customer normally does not pay the return cost.
After delivery, a quality fault within the product's warranty can still be handed to Hipobuy, provided you have the original proof of purchase and the warranty card. Hipobuy contacts the Chinese merchant without charging a service fee; the return postage is yours.

Risks the agent order still leaves with you
Hipobuy buying the item does not mean Hipobuy vouches for it. Its disclaimer for purchasing agents lists situations it treats as accepted by you once you order:
- Items with essential oils, lotions, batteries or adhesives may be removed so the rest of the order can ship.
- Branded goods, liquids, powders, food and medicine can run into customs limits, and Hipobuy takes no responsibility for that.
- Electrical goods, branded goods, tickets and cards get an outside check only: appearance and accessories, never a test.
- Fragile and odd-shaped items are bought at your risk.
The five-day return also excludes whole groups: custom-made goods, second-hand goods, underwear and socks, food, adult products, goods from outside mainland China, and opened items that no longer meet the seller's packaging standard.
